Iowa Motorcycle Insurance Requirements

In Iowa, there is a required minimum bodily injury coverage that must be met by all motorcycle operators. This is $20,000 per person in any one vehicular accident and $40,000 for all persons injured in any one vehicular accident. There is also a minimum requirement for property damage coverage. This is $15,000 for any damage or destruction done to the property of another in any one accident.

In Iowa there is a compulsory liability law and motorcycle operators are held financially responsible in the case of an accident. There is the option, if you do no purchase insurance coverage, to get Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage. Motorcycle owners can purchase either or both types of coverage and this will suffice as long as the minimum amount purchased meets the bodily injury liability requirements outline above.
