Electric Motorcycles Getting Closer

In recent years, there has been a lot of attention has been showered on the possibility of electric vehicles. Traditionally, this idea has only applied to cars; however, several companies are looking into creating all electric motorcycles.

The leader of the electric motorcycle push right now is a company based out of San Francisco, California called Mission Motors. Mission Motors was founded by Forrest North. Before founding the company, Forrest North worked with Tesla Motors, the company working on the premier electric car in America.

Mission Motors believes that the electric motorcycle can be a success. Stating that the workings of a motorcycle are less technically demanding than a car leads them to the belief that the electric motorcycle should be more successful in its design and production.

Many people believe that electric vehicles are slow and unreliable, which is not true. If the Mission One undergoes production, it will be the fastest commercially available electric vehicle, with a top speed of 150 miles per hour. Also, an electric bike has several beneficial design features over a gas powered motorcycle. Being an all-electric vehicle means that the bike will not shake because internal combustion is not taking place to power the vehicle. An electric bike will also have a lot more torque than traditional gas powered vehicles. Finally, the cost of running the vehicle will be very cheap and good for the environment.

However, don’t expect to see one on every block. The cost of the first few production models will be over $65,000 and will be in limited numbers.
