Commuting by Motorcycle

Some people are fortunate enough to live in a climate that allows them to ride their motorcycle to work on a daily basis. Others are stubborn enough or love their bikes enough to ride them to work on a daily basis, regardless of weather conditions. Commuting by motorcycle has many benefits for the person in love with his or her motorcycle but can present problems as well.

One of the greatest problems of commuting by motorcycle is that it involves taking the motorcycle into rush hour traffic. While many motorcyclists profess to being really safe drivers and not taking any risks, they cannot prevent other people, who might not be quite as conscientious, from making stupid decisions or being needlessly risky. This presents a problem.

Another serious problem of commuting by motorcycle is wardrobe. What one wears to work may not be at all appropriate for providing even a modicum of protection while on a motorcycle. For example, dress shoes for men most likely do not provide enough traction for riding a motorcycle. Pants that are designed for an office lack the requisite layers of material to protect the legs at all in the event of an accident. The same can be said for the jackets that are commonly worn to work.

For women, the wardrobe issues are even worse. Work attire for women typically involves shoes that are even less appropriate for riding a motorcycle. They provide minimal traction and, even if only a small heel, reduce the stability of the foot.

These wardrobe issues create problems for those who want to ride their motorcycles to work but aren’t quite sure how to get there safely.
